Exam Review for JUNE 22

Math review for exam on Integers

Negative numbers represent values below zero
and positive numbers represent values above zero

an example would be above and below ground or sea level( a bird is flying 5 meters above the lake and a fish is flying 6 meters directly under the bird how much is the difference between them)
How do you figure out if a integer statement is a addition statement or subtraction?
you check the operation
eg 1+(-2)=(-1) would be a addition statement
3-(-1)=4 is a subtraction statement

Opposite integers have the same numeral but different signs they always equal 0 like
(+5) -(-5)=0 also (+3)-(-3)=0

you can also solve them on number lines

Measures Of Central Tendency

- A value that represents the centre of a data set

- Can be the mean, median or mode

- Data set is a group of numbers that you must arrange in order from least to greatest

- 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 5, 4, 5, 3, 4, 6, 7, 5, 34, 3

- 2, 3, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 34

Median- the middle number in a set of data after the data have been arrange in order

Median of 2, 5, 6, 8, 9, is 6
Medina 1, 3, 6, 8, 9, 10 is 7
6+8=14
14/2=7

Mode- the most frequently occurring number in a set of data

- Mode and most both have 4 letters and mo

- Mode of 3, 5, 7, 7, 9, is 7

- Mode of 2, 2, 4, 6, 6, 11 is 2, 6

- Mode of 1, 2, 3 5, is no mode

- Mode of 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 4, is no mode

Mean- a measure of central tendency

The sum of a set of values divided by the number of values in the set

Mean of 6, 4, 8, is 4
4, 6, 8
4+6+8=18
18/3=6a

- Range - the positive difference between the largest and smallest values in a data set range of 4, 8,56, 9, 1, 3, 5, 8, 6, is 8

1, 3, 4, 5, 5, 6, 6,8, 8, 9
9-1=8 mean,

-2, -7, -1, -4
-7, -4, -2, -1
(-1) - (-7)=6

outlier -a value that is much larger of smaller then the other data value the data set may have then 1 outlier or zero outliers

Outliers for- 1, 67, 68, 67 ,64, 35, 100 are 1 and 100

Find mean, median, mode, range and outliers for the following data sets

18, 19, 79, 17, 20, 12 - Mean

14, 14, 16, 15 1, 16 - Median

98, 202, 99, 91, 2, 95, 89 ,88 94 - Mode

Measures Of Central tendency!

measures of central tendency
A value that represents the centre of a date set. Can be the mean, median, or mode.

Data set is a group of numbers that you must arrange in order from least to greatest.
eg: 2,3,4,5,6,5,4,5,3,34,7,7,3,2,5

Order: 2, 333,444,555,66,7,34

Median- the middle number in a set of data after the data have been arranged in order.
median of- 2,5,6,8,9 is 6
median of - 1,3,6,8,9,10, is 7
if this happens add the two numbers and divide by 2. 6+8=14 then 14/2= 7

eg: 1,2,7,8,9,10 7+8=15/2 15/2= 7.5

Mode- the most frequently occurring number in a set of data.

Mode and most both have 4 letters and mo.
eg:

mode of- 3,5,7,7,9 is 7
mode of - 2,2,4,66,8,11 is 2 and 6
remember you can have more than one mode!
mode of- 1,2,3,5 is no mode
mode of- 1,1,1,2,2,2,3,3,3 is no mode
mode of- 1,1,1,2,2,2,3,3,3,4 is 1,2,3

Mean- a measure of central tendency
the sum of a set of values divided by the number of values in the set.
eg: 4,6,8
4+6+8=18 18/3=6

Range- the positive difference between the largest and smallest values in a data set.
range of- 4,5,5,6,9,1,3,8,8,6 is
1,3,4,5,5,6,6,8,8,9 is 8
9-1=8
biggest number take away little number
-2,-7,-1,-4
-7,-4,-2,-1= +6

outlier- a value that is much larger or smaller than the other data value.
the data set may have more than 1 outlier or 0 outliers.
eg:
outliers for- 1,67,68,67,64,65,100 are 1 and 100

Notes: Algebra

1) Isolate the variable
- Meaning to get it by it self
2) What you do to one side of the expression,you must do to the other.

for example:
A+4= 10
A+4-4=10-4
A=6
After you get your answer, check it:

Step 1: Copy the equation again (A+4=10)

Step 2: Just replace every "a" you see with your answer for the equation (6)

You will end up with this:
6+4=10
6+4-4=10-4
6=6
Here are other examples:

B - 2 = 5
B
- 2 + 2 = 5 + 2
B=7

2j + 1 = 9
2j + 1 - 1 = 9 - 1
2j + 1 - 1 = 9 - 1
2
j=4

Notes, Algebra

Equation: mathematical statement with 2 expressions that have the same value.
eg: x+2=3 y-7=(-4)
3a-2=a+2 6=4

Isolate the variable = get the letter by itself.

here is a question for you:

Identify- variable, numerical coefficient, constant,
5y-6=
variable= y numerical coefficient= 5 constant=(-6)

you most memorize these opposite opperations:

+,- x, / -,+ /,x

here is another question: (remember to box your answer)

a+4=10
a+4-4=10-4
a=6
check
a+4=10
6+4=10

Algebra

ALGEBRA!

The point of Algebra is to find the meaning of the letter

Example:
B-2=5

B would be 7
But to be sure, you have to CHECK it.

B-2=5
7-2=5
5=5

So that means B=7

Answer's for today's questions.

First there are 4 steps .
First step: Isolate the variable
Second step: Reverse the operations
Third step: It become's a zero pair, and then the variable is isolated by itslef so you solve the question.
Fourth step: Rewrite the question and check your answer.

First Question: A+4=10
A+4-4=10-4
10-4=6
Check it :
10+4= 10
6+4=10
10=10 .
A= 6.

Second Question:
B-2=5
B-2+2=5+2
B=7
Check it.
B-2=5
7-2=5
5=5
B=7

Third Question: / = Divided
W/3=6 ( divided)
Wx3=6x3
6x3=15
Check it.
W/3=6
18/3=6
6=6
W= 18.

Fourth Question: / = Divided , brackets means multiplying.
3C=21
3/3=21/3=7
Check it.
3C=21
3(7)=21
21=21
C=7

Fifth Question: / = Divided
F/3-2=1
F/3+2+1+2
Check it.
F/3-2=1
1+2=3
9/3-2=1
3-2=1
1=1
F= 9.

Sixth Question: / = Divided. brackets means multiply.
2J+1=9
2J=1-1+9-1.
2/2=8/2
Check it.
2J+1=9
2(4)+1=9
8+1=9
9=9
J=4.
