Notes: Algebra

1) Isolate the variable
- Meaning to get it by it self
2) What you do to one side of the expression,you must do to the other.

for example:
A+4= 10
A+4-4=10-4
A=6
After you get your answer, check it:

Step 1: Copy the equation again (A+4=10)

Step 2: Just replace every "a" you see with your answer for the equation (6)

You will end up with this:
6+4=10
6+4-4=10-4
6=6
Here are other examples:

B - 2 = 5
B
- 2 + 2 = 5 + 2
B=7

2j + 1 = 9
2j + 1 - 1 = 9 - 1
2j + 1 - 1 = 9 - 1
2
j=4

And if you still need more help on Algebra here's a link
And here's the link to the video

Hi Sheila. Maybe you should add some multiplication and division examples. Otherwise, good job.

Good job Sheila, you explained how to isolate the variable and check it very clearly. I suggest that you highlight some keywords and make things stand out more so it can get our attention more

Great job Sheila, I like how you explained the steps on how to check your answer and how to isolate the variable. Something that you could add is do some multiplication and division questions. Over all though, it was a really good post.

Good job Sheila!!! I like how you really explained every step on how to isolate the variable. You should add more color and highlight some key words. Your link was helpful too.
I also found a link that might be helpful : http://ca.ixl.com/math/grade-7/evaluate-single-variable-expressions
